Welsh Farm Business Grant - 40% Grant funding available

The Welsh Government’s Farm Business Grant (FBG) provides a one-off grant of between £3,000 and £12,000 for investments towards capital equipment such as mobile livestock handling equipment that have been pre-identified as offering clear and quantifiable benefits to farm enterprises. We know exactly what works when it comes to supplying mobile livestock handling systems and offer solutions that are strong, quick and user friendly. Simple, robust and easy to set up systems make shepherding more efficient whether handling sheep at home or away. Key Facts


The Welsh Government’s Farm Business Grant (FBG) will open grant application windows over the next four years as part
of a £40 million allocation of grant funding available to farmers.


  • Applicants only get one opportunity to apply for funding over the four year period in one of the application windows
  • Amendments and additions have been made to the offerings, one of them being the inclusion of a mobile sheep handling system to hold a minimum of 100 ewes
  • Third application window open from 29 January 2018 to 2 March 2018
  • Applicants will be required to attend a ‘Farming for the Future’ roadshow and business turnover must not exceed £1million
  • Grant funding allocation will range from a minimum of £3,000 based on a £7,500 spend up to a maximum grant of £12,000 based on a £30,000 spend.

Important Information for Round 3

Administration of the FBG will be transferring to Rural Payments Wales (RPW) for the third round, opening in January 2018, and future rounds of the scheme:
  • Farmers will be able to apply in the third round of the scheme through RPW online portal.
  • Scheme Management Unit (SMU) will continue to administer the claims and approvals process for the first and second round only.
Scheme information will be available from January 2018, on the Welsh Government website.
Farmers can begin applying, through RPW Online, from 29 January 2018.

Farming for the Future Roadshows

Eligibility for the Welsh Government’s Farm Business Grant (FBG), which can provide a one-off grant of between £3,000 and £12,000, requires a partner in the business to attend one ‘Farming for the Future’ event organised by Farming Connect. The individual attending must be registered as a business partner with Farming Connect and Welsh Government Rural Payment Wales. Farmers across Wales will be able to invest in around 70 items linked to animal health; genetics and performance; crop management; energy efficiency; resource efficiency and ICT.
